Another Site That Uses Multimedia Effectively
Introduction
The internet is a place where people come together and share with each other different ideas, as well as teach each other. They do this through different websites. Some websites have really good information on them, but they lack multimedia. Multimedia is the use of pictures, videos, typography to help the reader understand the information being conveyed to them. The best sites are really the ones that have good multimedia, as the readers are able to understand to the fullest ability, what is being conveyed. One website that uses good multimedia is Britannica Kids. This website is an encyclopedia that is organized to the very inch. I chose it because its homepage is neatly categorized, and the articles have different forms of multimedia.
The Homepage
Britannica's homepage is divided into different categories. These sections have an image as a background, which can help readers to understand more on what the categories includes. Good typography is also shown, as the words on top of the backgrounds are still readable. Everything is nicely spaced out, and there is a navigation bar on the page where you can toggle what you see depending on your grade. The titles on the navigation bar are bigger and bolder than the descriptions that follow them. This itself is good typography. The homepage is very readable and simple, so it is easy for the reader to understand how to navigate the page.
The Pages
The different pages Britannica has to offer also effectively use multimedia. For example, the pages in the Articles section have pictures, a somewhat diverse selection of typography, and sometimes videos (If you are looking in Kids and Students version of Britannica, then there will be more videos than in scholar). In the articles, important keywords are highlighted and underlined in blue, captions are small and in grey, and the title is big and in bold. This is evidence of good typography and will help the reader further absorb what they are being taught. In general, the site has good multimedia that makes it effective.
Summary
In summary, Britannica knows how to use multimedia effectively enough to help the reader absorb what is being taught to them. The homepage is organized in a way that is simple and readable, and in a way that you can find things according to their categories. As for the articles, they have pictures and videos to help aid the text. The whole site in general has good typography as well. This site really knows how to use multimedia effectively.
